HOMELESS NOT HELPless
Children in every ZIP code across the Metro-Detroit region are at risk of becoming homeless or living homeless with their family. Homelessness brings about a multitude of issues that drastically alter one's everyday life. When homeless, commonplace tasks such as eating, studying, and sleeping are far more difficult and in some localities - illegal to do in public.
GDC believes educational and health inequalities are precursors to homelessness and combats these powers by partnering with Wayne State University Law School's Homeless Not Helpless student group and offering free educational and holistic services to students K-12 and community members experiencing homelessness or at-risk of being homeless. Our services include distributing Blessing Bags as well as offering internships and mentorships to students showing outstanding resilience and determination to overcome life's obstacles.
